The End of an Era: Saying Goodbye to my JX1 PE

Today, I am parting ways with my Genesis GV80 (JX1 PE). Over the past two years, this vehicle hasn’t just been a mode of transport; it has been a reliable member of our family.

Having documented my journey in over 40 detailed posts, I can confidently say I’ve become an expert on this machine. From technical troubleshooting to long-distance family hauls, I’ve seen it all. If you have any questions about the GV80, feel free to leave a comment below!

Why ‘Salt’?

For those new here, my GV80 was nicknamed “Salt” (Sogeum-i). The name was inspired by its Uyuni White exterior—reminding me of the pristine, brilliant white of the Uyuni Salt Flats. It has been a joy to maintain and a pride to drive.

📋 730 Days with ‘Salt’: A Categorized Legacy

Here is a summary of the specialized knowledge gathered over the last two years.

  • Maintenance & Tech: CCIC Smart Cruise Control optimization, Built-in Cam 2 Wi-Fi setup, Wireless Android Auto updates, and Digital Key 2 sharing.
  • Cargo & Utility: 7-seater 3rd-row optimization, real-world trunk measurements (The Costco Test), and smartphone cradle reviews.
  • Performance & Comparison: Seoul-to-Daegu long-distance reports, fuel efficiency data, and head-to-head comparisons with the IONIQ 9 and EV9 GT.
  • Safety & Incidents: Door ding (Moon-kok) prevention and response, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA) testing, and 3rd-row safety sensor verification.
  • The Final Chapter: Resale value analysis and depreciation simulation.

🌟 The Pros and Cons: A Real-World Perspective

After 24 months of daily driving, here is my honest verdict on the Genesis GV80.

👍 The Highlights (Pros)

  1. Iconic Design & Serenity: The Uyuni White aesthetic paired with Genesis’ signature NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) levels provided a premium experience every time I got behind the wheel.
  2. Continuous Evolution (OTA): Thanks to Over-the-Air updates, the car actually got better over time. Features like Wireless Android Auto made the car feel brand new even two years later.
  3. Family-First Versatility: As a 7-seater, it handled camping trips, grocery hauls, and school runs effortlessly. The trunk space and 3rd-row flexibility are top-tier for this segment.

👎 The Regrets (Cons)

  1. Missing the AWD & Side Steps: Driving a 2WD model made me realize how much I missed the confidence of All-Wheel Drive. Also, the lack of power side steps was a constant minor struggle for the kids during entry and exit.
  2. The Need for Soft-Close Doors: I often had to re-close doors that the children didn’t shut firmly. This is an essential luxury feature I realized I couldn’t live without.

🏠 ‘Salt’ Leaves, ‘Sugar’ Arrives

While it’s sad to see “Salt” go to a new owner, our family is excited to welcome “Sugar” (Seoltang-i)—our brand new Genesis GV80.

To address the “cons” of my previous experience, I’ve loaded “Sugar” with the following upgrades:

  • AWD (All-Wheel Drive) for superior handling.
  • Power Side Steps for family convenience.
  • Soft-Close Doors (Ghost Door Closing) to end the half-closed door struggle.
  • Beige Interior for a brighter, more luxurious cabin feel.

The journey continues. All the data we gathered with Salt—from trunk dimensions to winter camping tips—will now serve as the foundation for our even “sweeter” life with Sugar. Thank you for following along!
